Four drawings per day starting Sept. 9

In a few weeks, Texas Lottery players will have twice as many opportunities per day to play the Pick 3 and Pick 4 games.

Currently, both of the popular daily numbers games are drawn twice per day, at 12:27 pm and 10:12 pm. Starting September 9, four drawings per day will occur at 10:00 am, 12:27 pm, 6:00 pm, and 10:12 pm.

A year ago the Texas Lottery introduced a new game called All or Nothing, which broke new ground for the lottery as a four-drawing-per-day game. The concept was popular with players, and so now it is being expanded to Pick 3 and Pick 4.

"When we launched the All or Nothing game in September 2012, we quickly learned that the new morning and evening draw times were popular with players," explained Texas Lottery Commission Executive Director Gary Grief.

The 6:00 pm evening drawing proved to be especially significant to that game's success.

"The Texas Lottery believes the new evening time appeals to commuters who are making stops at retail stores on their way home," said Grief. "Texas Lottery retailers have been very enthusiastic about the foot traffic the new drawing times have created in their locations."

Tickets go on sale for the first time for the 4 daily draws on Sunday, September 8, with the first drawing on Monday, September 9 at 10:00 am.

Pick 3 and Pick 4 games are drawn every day except Sunday.

The All or Nothing game, which has been on hiatus for about 3 months due to a prize payout flaw, is due to resume sales on Sunday. (See Texas Lottery bringing back All or Nothing game, Lottery Post, Aug. 6, 2013.)

It will be especially helpful for those Texans who spend their day checking lottery results.

Now the players will have twice as much tracking to keep up with. Is that good or bad?

One thing I don't like about the change is that I won't be able to choose which draw I want to play on the playslip. Right now, I can choose day or night. When it changes, whenever I play it will be for the next draw. If I want to play multiple draws it will have to be consecutive draws instead of multiple day draws or multiple night draws.

When they started All  or Nothing I wrote an email to Michelle Byrd telling her that I and other players want the option to pick which draw we could play. She replied that she would refer it to the products manager to look into it. Guess we'll see what happens. They did mention it at the commissioners meeting this month, but that's it.
