Pennsylvania Lottery

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Ann Marie Bossard couldn't speak.

She had just scanned one of her regular customer's lottery tickets, and the number that came up was the largest she'd ever seen for a payout at Anthracite Newsstand in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania: More than $4.2 million.

"I was putting tickets in, they said 'no winner,' 'no winner.' This came out, it said 'winner.' I couldn't say anything," she said Tuesday.

Bossard said the customer buys tickets twice a week for different games. He bought the Match 6 lotto ticket Oct. 21 for the Oct. 24 drawing, when his number — 02-05-10-13-28-48 — came up. He won $4,205,027, minus a 25 percent federal tax. The combination was picked by the store's lottery machine.

Escaping the commotion in the store, Bossard and the winner walked out the back door to the nearby Pennsylvania Lottery office. Then, Bossard said, the winner called a lawyer and someone who could help him invest his windfall. Bossard did not identify the winner.

The Pennsylvania Lottery confirmed that the newsstand sold the winning ticket. Anthracite Newsstand will earn a $10,000 commission.

Bossard said the winner revealed some tentative plans for the money.

"He has an old Subaru and he's going to buy a new Subaru," she said. "He told where he works that he's going to retire. He's going to pack it in, because he can afford to retire."

Jim Alichnie, Wilkes-Barre, sometimes buys lottery tickets at the newsstand. Tuesday, he came as close as he probably ever will to winning the lottery when he saw the winner turn his ticket in.

"He was shaking his hands, shaking like a little baby, just shaking. It was amazing," Alichnie said.

Congratulations to the winner who is now financially secure enough to retire.  Sounds like a smart person calling his financial advisor on the way to cash in the ticket.  Also congratulations to Anthracite Newsstand for selling the winner ticket and collecting $10,000. Thumbs Up

Very nice and on a quick pick too!

I'd like to check my tickets at home rather than hand them to a clerk to scan. I could take my time and think about how I'd like to handle the win

and have some control over who knew what and when.

The Match 6 is a fun game, I'm happy they brought it back in PA. For $2, you get a set of 3 lines with 6 numbers each (18#'s total) and 2 ways to

win.

One is matching numbers on one line of 6 numbers - another is matching numbers in the field of 18 numbers on the 3 lines. It's also possible to win

both ways on one set too.

WTG winner!!

Wooo! No Patels to rain on this winner's parade! And how convenient for the Lotto Headquarters to be right down the street! I can't even imagine the elation when folks realize they have that life-changing ticket! Well maybe I'll get to feel comfortably numb following this Saturday's Powerball drawing! Good luck LP'ers

Did somebody notice that the store that sold the pick 6 jp in Ohio earned $1,000 while a store that sold pick 6 in PA earned $10,000.

Ohio Lottery must be a very stingy lottery...or maybe they are normal and PA lottery is more generous. Either way, I'd rather be a store owner in PA if I was to sell lottery.

Congrats to the winner. Looking to hit the local pick 6 here in MA

Why is the full jackpot amount made out to the newstand, on the ceremonial check?

I need to subtly learn if my hubby's friend in Wilkes-Barre owns a Subaru. He's the kind that would visit a store like that - an he could use the money.
