SPRING VALLEY, Calif. — A winning scratch-off lottery ticket worth $2 million was sold at a Spring Valley, California, 'mom and pop' shop that had only been selling lottery tickets for a month, lottery officials announced Monday.
The winner wished to remain anonymous, but lottery officials said the "Set for Life" ticket was purchased last week at Ray's Market at 9762 Campo Road.
Ray's Market opened for business six years ago and just started selling California Lottery tickets in July.
"It's all the more remarkable that they've already had a big winner," California Lottery spokesman Russ Lopez said.
Raymond Kassab, the store's manager, described the winner as "a regular customer here, and he's a really nice guy."
The "Set for Life" game pays out $100,000 annually over 20 years.
Thanks to Hosni for the tip.
Awesome, Congrats to the winner.
ANONYMOUS... say it with me... ANONYMOUS. I like the way that winner is thinking already!!
.... I hope the lucky person will take that money and puts it good use
congrats to the California winner', it great that he can remain anonymous also congrats to the little mom and pop store.
I hope that the Mom and Pop Store where I purchase my tickets gets to be in the news for tomorrow's Powerball drawing !!!!!!!
Congrats to the store and the winner !!!!!!!!!!!
I bought quite a lot of California Set for Life Tickets but never won more than 10 dollars. In fact, most of them are losers. If you look at the table of odds, Set for Life is one of the worst ticket to buy, despite its claim that its winning odds are 1 in 5.82.
Here's why. Take a look at Set for Life table of odds, a $5 ticket:
Now, compare that to Wild 10, another $5 ticket:
The odds of winning a decent amount like $50 bucks from Wild 10 are 1 in 185 while the odds of winning $40 from Set for Life are 1 in 500.
The odds of winning $100 from Wild 10 are 1 in 341 while the odds of winning the same amount from Set for Life are 1 in 932.
The odds of winning $500 from Wild 10 are 1 in 1,714 while the odds of winning $200 from Set for Life are 1 in 10,000.
And so on and so forth.
Set for Life is one of the worst ticket one could buy at CA, a $5 ticket. The jackpot winner must be a very lucky guy.
Thank You Jesus
Roger that.
Amen Brother! Amen!
