Mega Millions

By Todd Northrop

JEFFERSON, Ohio — A lucky group of 22 co-workers were at the Ohio Lottery's Youngstown office Monday to claim their share of last week's $99 million Mega Millions jackpot.

The Ohio lottery said most of the 22 work for KraftMaid in Jefferson, Ashtabula County, midway between Cleveland and Youngstown.  The majority of the winners work together in the logistics and customer service departments at the cabinet making company.  The group has been playing the lottery for several years.

Each winner will get about $2 million after state and federal taxes are subtracted.  According to the lottery, the 22 lucky winners opted for the cash option, and should receive their prize checks in about four weeks.

The winning ticket was purchased at a Speedway in Jefferson, about 43 miles north of Warren, and about 10 miles from the Pennsylvania border.

Speedway receives a $99,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

As a group, they said they were still in shock and paying off bills was top-of-mind for each of the winners.

The 22 winners are:

  • Arnette Badanjek of Southington
  • Germaine Bolden of Mentor
  • Thomas Bolden of Whitmore Lake
  • Jennifer Brown of Chardon
  • Kahemba Butler of Warren
  • Jennifer Carpenter of Dorset
  • Lynn Clifton of Rome
  • LaDawn Cramer of Garrettsville
  • Susan Durman of Huntsburg
  • Cheryl Getzy of Concord
  • Joni Hardin of Jefferson
  • Kathleen Holesko of Newton Falls
  • David Hostetler of Middlefield
  • Beverly Kaser of Garrettsville
  • Marjorie Langreder of West Farmington
  • Chastity Lewis of Niles
  • Margaret Lindic of Burton
  • Denise Moss of Garrettsville
  • Donald Rosette of Aurora
  • Kimberly Wallace of Middlefield
  • Michael Weaver of Burton
  • Dennis Wolford of Southington

Friday's ticket was the 16th Mega Millions jackpot ticket sold by an Ohio Lottery retailer since the state joined the game in May 2002.

The lottery says the odds of winning the jackpot were 1 in more than 175 million.

Totally agree... Congrats to the winners.  I will gladly accept the Jackpot from Powerball from Wednesdays drawing on behalf of the West coast as the sole winner.  :)

HUGE congrats to the winners!! I play with 37 co-workers in Illinois, Hope to win this wed. on the Power Ball. We have been playing for over 10 years, but only when the pot is 100 million or over, have won some small amounts nothing big yet.

I hope the winners don't all call me at the same time to invest in my 'Southern Chicken Soup In A Sponge' idea.

I'm still working on a slogan.

I've narrowed them down to these three so far:

"Just squeeze in your mouth - for a taste of the south!"

"Give the Sponge some squeezes - for the taste that pleases!"

"No need to buy a bowl - just squeeze in your pie hole!"

You gotta admit, they'd be crazy not to get in on the ground floor on this one.

Why hope such thing when you could be holding 5+0 ticket wishing you were that second jp winner.

I hope the opposite that more people would win the jackpot like this lottery group here in Ohio.

So HOW many of those workers are gonna leave there jobs? Its a DOUBLE win for the area they live in as I am gussing that some will leave there jobs and that will mean they will have to be replaced so that means more jobs for people in that area.  Then there is the 'stimulus' of all the money they won.

I think it GREAT when a group like this wins this kinda money.  As they often stay in the area they live in and spend most of money there helping everyone in their community.

CONGRATS Party to the group.

I like that pools have been winning lately; gives me hope that one of mine will hit soon.

Hopefully tomorrow my family pool or my oldest work pool will win.  My first choice is always my family pool.  I say the oldes work pool for second choice because, even tho it's one of the largest pools I run and my cut is smaller, we've been playing for about 8 years and have only had small wins (not that any of the others have had any big wins Wink) and several of the members recently lost their job.  I think it's our time because we've been getting some little wins in the last few weeks - you know, preparing us for the BIG ONE.

On a cynical note, I'm waiting to see how long it takes before a lawsuit is filed against the most recent winners.  Hope the pool was well organized and documented.

Congrats to the winners!

It's also interesting to note that,  "The winners used the auto lotto feature to choose their winning numbers..."

I'll help you with R&D for your product if you help with mine.

Presenting by feadogger . . . . .   Meat8  !!!

The new delicious way to get your protein.  8 different kinds of good ole southern fare, with small bits of meat and their cooked gravy mixed into one wonderful liquid.  Country style Ribs, Grilled T-Bone, Loin BBQ, Beef Stew, Pork Chop, Country Fried Steak, Meatloaf and the coup de grace . . . Cracklins for added zing.

You can pour it inside your baked taters, slather it all over some cornbread, mix it up with your rice, or just drink it in a weak moment.

Whatcha think ridge?

Sounds good to me cuz gravy has always been considered a beverage in my house.

And let's face it, drinkable meat is an idea whose time has come.

"Auto lotto feature", is that the same as QUICK PICK?

Auto or quick pick is probably the best way to pick combinations for group play, that way no member can be blamed for picking losing combinations.
