ROCK HILL, S.C. — A Rock Hill, South Carolina, man was about to throw away a lottery ticket when he noticed he missed a spot. When he scratched off the spot he uncovered a "7" to win $200,000.
Or was it a "1?" He couldn't tell.
He held the ticket up to the bathroom light to see. It looked like a "7." He went outside and in the sunlight it still looked like a "7." He drove to Bob's Food Mart in Rock Hill, where he purchased the Stacks of Cash ticket, for their opinion. He left satisfied he won $200,000.
He told his mom first.
"I was a little nervous, so I didn't want to make her nervous," said the unnamed winner in a press release from the lottery office. "I had her sit down and make sure her blood pressure was OK."
The Rock Hill winner claimed the last $200,000 top prize on the Stacks of Cash game. He plans to pay off his house with the money.
The odds of winning $200,000 are 1 in 480,000. Every retailer that sells a claimed ticket of $10,000 or more earns a 1 percent retailer commission, capped at $50,000. Bob's Food Mart received $2,000.

I never undertstand why big winners go back to the store to show the clerk. There are always those clerks who will wait for some kind of tip for selling the winner. I always prefer to stay out of the spotlight. This guy will now be known around town for being the lottery winner since he is quik to show his face. At least he withheld his name from the press release.

save all losers that Tax year in 1 place.
if you Win any big amount,
all losing tickets that same tax year, are now deductions vs your Winnings for gambling income being taxed / aka loser's can be deductions that Year on your winning amounts being taxed by irs.

Was the ticket that difficult to read or was the winner in shock? I thought on the scratch tickets there was an abbreviated spelling of the number under each number as well as an abbreviated spelling for the prize amounts.
Why was the ticket so difficult to read?

I wonder this all the time. We hear stories about people saying "I thought I had originally won $1,000, but was in shcoh to find out it was $100,000"...How in the he11 do you not know that you won that amount?
Can't really use the "old too old to see" excuse, because if thats the case, they shouldnt be playing.
Good For the winner! Glad he didn't throw it away always make sure you check your tickets YOUR SELF!! Also glad to hear that the clerk at the store was honest.....I know that in SC they scan your ticket and it just says "Your A Winner". The clerk could have said you won 20 bucks or something and taken his jackpot.
I will go back to the store when I win ......................... and show them my new car ................. they aren't touching the ticket!
Dont these scratch off games usually have the number worded out right below it ...like how "one" is seen in small print under the number 1 and "svn" is seen under "7"? I know they have them on the Hoosier Lotto scratchoffs and that's usually how certain numbers are confirmed.

Yeah, every one I've ever seen has it in print below the number.
Maybe SC doesn't though, I don't know for sure.
I wouldn't trust the store clerk with my ticket, but nevertheless, this store has some good people.
