A Pawleys Island, South Carolina, man told lottery officials winning $200,000 this week saved his home from being in foreclosure, according to a news release from the S.C. Education Lottery.

John Davis won the money playing Palmetto Cash 5 and said he was $2 away from foreclosure and faced a hearing this week, according to the release.

"Financially, it has been a tough year for me," he said. "It has been a huge financial struggle for me, and this win will get me back on my feet."

Davis purchased the ticket for Tuesday's drawing and matched five numbers in the drawing. He added $1 to his purchase to Power-Up, which multiplied his winnings by 2 to $200,000.

Davis screamed when he checked his ticket Wednesday morning while at work at the Ford dealership in Pawleys Island, according to the release.

"I'm having a good day," he said when he redeemed his ticket at the Charleston Claims Center. "I went to church on Sunday, and I asked God for some help." Davis, a single father of two, said he purchased a quick pick ticket for the drawing because his 3-year-old daughter was hungry and he didn't take the time to pick his own numbers.

The Scotchman No. 124 in Garden City Beach sold the winning ticket and received $2,000, according to the release.

Very happy to see that Mr. Davis will keep his home and the kids will still have a roof over their heads.

Also very encouraged to see that GOD does answer prayers, and see that HE does use the lottery at times to answer that prayer.

Thanks Todd, this story has made my month.

I Agree! I am glad that God decided to help this fella out a bit. The story did not mention whether or not that was his primary residence, or a rental home. If he rents it out, he should give me and (and of course other LP members) a good deal! It is pretty and laid back there, and certainly one of my favorite islands in SC. There are a number of dwellings for rent there, and I have been twice, I do believe, maybe three times. My cousin got married there, and we had like 20 of us from different families (but all blood relatives), all in one house.

It is a nice getaway. My favorite island is in Florida, and my second favorite is probably in GA, but I have not been there yet, and that would be Cumberland Island. I like to get away from it all, and Pawley's Island is probably the best getaway for those who wish to remain in close proximity with civilization, but just on the outskirts. It is almost in the boonies, but not quite.  The Lord truly works in mysterious ways.

This story proves that God does answer prayer. Sometimes its just not the way or timing that we want. I'm sooo happy for him and his family!!!

A couple of points I'd like to make.

1) God doesn't care who wins the lottery.  Sorry, it's true.  It's all luck, no heavenly intervention.

2) This article doesn't tell the whole story.   Please see: http://www.thestate.com/2011/01/14/1646424/lottery-win-saves-home.html

The guy is broke in part because he plays the lottery EVERY day.  Also, instead of saving some money, he plans to blow a large portion of it on a cruise.

This guy will have $0 in his checking account within a month.

More power to Mr. Davis.  This is a very uplifitng story. This story reinforces me in my belief that I will win the lottery one of these days. And when it happens, I will be laughing all the way to the BANK

I Do believe God answers prayers and in ways that most wouldn't look for!   I'm glad it worked out for Mr. Davis and that God smiled upon him.  I hope he uses it wisely.  I have to say that if I had only six dollars to my name, I probably wouldn't be playing the lottery!
