SALEM, Ore. — The Mega Millions multi-state lottery game is about to become Oregon's second major lottery jackpot game.

Ticket sales for the popular United States lottery game will begin in Oregon March 28. As of that time, 37 states will offer Mega Millions.  (Arizona is due to start Mega Millions sales on April 18, becoming the 38th state, and Colorado is due to start in mid-May, becoming the 39th.)

Oregon will continue to offer tickets for Powerball, which is the country's other major multi-state lottery game.

Similar to Powerball, the Mega Millions drawing selects six numbers. The more numbers players match, the more money they win.

"With the increase in the number of people playing both games nationwide, players should see jackpots growing larger between each drawing than in the past," said Larry Niswender, Oregon's interim lottery director.

Niswender said Mega Millions will help increase lottery revenues, allowing the lottery to provide more money for education, economic development and state parks in Oregon.

Mega Millions drawings will take place each Tuesday and Friday night. Powerball drawings will remain every Wednesday and Saturday.

The current jackpots for the two lotteries are $133 million for Mega Millions and $114 million for Powerball.

The highest jackpot in Mega Millions history was won in 2007. Winners in Georgia and New Jersey shared a $390 million jackpot.
