Multi-state lottery jackpots near $100 million mark

Mega Millions / Powerball

The Powerball and Mega Millions lottery jackpots are now both nearing $100 million.

The Powerball annuity jackpot went up to $95 million ($46.1 million cash option) last night after no one had a ticket matching the first five numbers — 4 17 35 50 57 — and the Powerball 12.

Surprisingly, no one in any of the 41 states where Powerball is played, plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands, had the first five numbers to win a second tier prize.

Mega Millions has the bigger jackpot at $99 million ($60.6 million cash option).

Mega Millions has not had a jackpot winner since Jan. 29. The next drawing for that game is tomorrow night.

The next drawing for Powerball, which has not had a jackpot winner since Feb. 6, is Saturday night.

Very strange, the total number of winner have constant increased during this PB run and with the most winners yet at 718,552 this is the first time there wasn't a match 5 among them.  In fact the previous drawing had thirty-two 4+1 and, six 5+0 winners and the drawing had thirty-two 4+1 and zero 5+0 winners.

The powerball jackpot will rise faster than megamillions because of the powerplay option no available in MegaMillions in state that originally sold it. Personally I spend $6 every week, $2 on MegaMillions and $4 on powerball with powerplay. Wink

Since any extra money earned by players playing the multipliers or powerplay is paid by the states where played, I doubt if they are contributing any of that extra money to the jackpot which all states contribute to equally based on regular ticket sales.

did anyone else notice how close/similar the numbers were that were drawn for both games? is this just randomness at work or something else?

It is randomness at work, but the numbers definitely weren't close.

You'll probably have some competition from other LP members who are thinking the same thing. Wink

Well at $99 million I wouldn't mind if there's more than 1 winner, but all I know is, I got a jackpot winning ticket right here. It's right here in front of me. I'm looking at it right now. That's all I gotta say.Big Grin

Meh, I don't even bother playing MegaMillions, the odds are so bad, until the jackpot hits above $200 Million.

Odds don't matter. The chances of anything happening is always the same....50-50.  Either a thing will happen or it won't.   I WILL WIN!

Just waiting to be the first person from PA to win Mega Millions  !

Just one winner !

The way it should be ... and I don't need Regressive help to spread the wealth !

About 39 Million in the bank after Fed TAXES ... $21.35 million is enough for the crooks in DC !

Cool

I agree 100%.  I believe I have the same odds of winning as the last powerball winner :)
