Denver, Co. — The Colorado Lottery will launch its first new Jackpot game in nine years next week.
Called MatchPlay, the game will offer a rolling, $100,000 jackpot and more ways to win than the Lottery's current Jackpot games.
Drawings for MatchPlay will be held on Tuesdays and Fridays at approximately 7:40 p.m.. The first tickets for the game will be sold on Sun., Feb. 21, and the first drawing will be held on Tue., Feb. 23.
"MatchPlay is a fresh, new game that will provide our players with fun features they've never experienced before," said Colorado Lottery Acting Director Tom Kitts. "We expect the game to generate a lot of excitement."
MatchPlay will offer consumers three lines of play for $2. Players can select the first line (or opt for Quick Pick), while the next two lines will be automatically generated by the system. To win the jackpot, players must match six numbers across a straight line.
Players can also win prizes (ranging from $2 to $1,000) for matching three, four, or five numbers in any straight line, or by matching five numbers or more in any combination from all three lines.
The overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 6 — better than any other Lottery jackpot game offered in the state.
"MatchPlay really does give our players more," added Kitts.
The MatchPlay jackpot will increase by a minimum of $10,000 per drawing until somebody wins the top prize. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 2,760,681.
To promote the game's launch, the Lottery will be hosting a variety of giveaways, including:
- Free tickets at nearly 90 retail outlets statewide on Feb. 21st.
- The chance to enter "cash cubes" filled with fake cash redeemable for prizes including tickets to the Denver Broncos' season opener, grocery store certificates and MatchPlay tickets for an entire year. The cash cubes will be stationed at four grocery stores on Feb. 22nd in Denver, Colorado Springs, Pueblo and Grand Junction
- Free parking at 70 meters in downtown Denver from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Feb. 22nd.
The MatchPlay winning numbers will be displayed on Lottery Post's Colorado Lottery Results page (www.lotterypost.com/results/co) soon after each drawing.

I think they've been planning this for long time and had intended to roll it out earlier judging by the fact they had a MatchPlay scratch-off game out a while back rolled out with game based on the other on-line games.
The question is this, is this why Colorado has yet to join Mega Millions, to avoid confusion with this game? In any case, it's good they finally added a new game, Colorado is very stodgy when it comes to on-line games. Heck, they don't even have pick-3. How can you not have a pick-3?!
They are joining Mega Millions this spring.
Hard to get excited about the birth of another computerized lottery game.
I wonder if any lottery director anywhere has ever once considered asking the players what they'd like.
It's too bad it's not an elected position so we could voice our displeasure in the voting booth.
But as long as the only people they answer to are the politicians, they will continue to be unresponsive to the will of the people.
The largest gathering of lottery players on the planet is right here on Lottery Post and they could easily see what the overwhelming majority of them want if they wanted to be responsive. Unfortunately, though they undoubtedly read the Lottery Post, they, like most bureaucrats, really don't care what the people want.
