New games send lottery sales soaring

Tennessee Lottery

Tennessee lottery officials say sales are surging because of two new games: Mega Millions and Millionaire Jumbo Bucks.

Ticket sales last week were the third highest, $30.8 million, since the lottery began more than six years ago.

Mega Millions is the state's second mega-jackpot game. Millionaire Jumbo Bucks is an instant-ticket game with top prizes of $1 million.

After five days of sales, "Millionaire Jumbo Bucks" players had won more than $3.5 million in prizes.

Last week's sales were surpassed only twice since startup: During the week of Jan. 20-26, 2004, total sales were $41.3 million and during the week of Feb. 12-18, 2006, total sales were $33.6 million.

Very  good  point  wizeguy.

That  is  precisely  why  I  quit  playing  the  other  games  in  { TN}

that are computer  draw games and will only play PB  MM and Scrach off.

NO  Cash  3 , 4  or  Pick  5  or LOTTO PLUS Smile

Lottery sales may be up because of the addition of new games in one state, if its citizens were crossing state lines to play a multistate game. And perhaps there is some unmet demand in Tenn. However, I doubt that the spread of the multistate games across the country will ultimately increase lottery sales on the whole. People have gambling budgets, which track pretty well with the economy. Thus, the economy being in recession, most studies show that gambling sales are down correspondingly.

when the new wears off sales will fall again.. people need to boycott the lottery in tennessee unril they bring the balls back,, quit playing the computerized games.. there is little cance of winning that is why the payouts are so low...the computer always picks a number  no one is playing to keep payouts low..rebecca hargrove has ruined a good lottery..she neeeds to go  and so does the computerized draws....quit throwing your money away..wake up

I think it WILL increase sales because there are now 4 drawings a week in each state, instead of 2.  Many people will play all 4, instead of previously just playing 2.

Some "cannibalism" will occur, as people shift dollars from one game to another, but overall sales will go up.

You are right tnwinner. They need to go back to the ball drawings. That will never happen untill Rebecca leaves. The TN lottery will be better off without her. She has ruined the scratchoffs. Just 4 1.000,000 dollar prizes on the millionaire jumbo bucks. GA has 10. All the new scratchers they don't put many prizes on them anymore. They are not worth playing. Their bread and butter game the 2 dollar jumbo bucks sucks. Last time they reloaded them they didn't put but 26 50,000 dollar prizes on them. They use to put 40 or 50. They have over 4000 retailers. Each retailer should be allowed one 500 dollar winner on each game. I bought 10 5 dollar giant jumbo bucks yesterday not one winner. Player cinfidence 0. Remember this she is chair person for the powerball. She will ruin it before it is over. I could go on and on. If you are reading this Rebecca no one wants you at the TN lottery. Why don't you go.

back when the tennessee lottery first started it was one of the best lotteries at the time.back then i was hitting pick 3 numbers five or ten times a ticket and winning huge money.hit the pick 4 a few times.used to win most of my money back on scratch offs.very fair and things were run pretty smooth back then.until the summer of 2007.i'd just hit a huge pick 4 in february of '07 which enabled me to move where i live now.after that i sort of got busy and wasn't playing lottery much and i got on here one day and saw the headline "tennessee to switch to computerized draws'.i was heartbroken because i knew then that even the scratchers and everything were about to go downhill.i barely play tennessee any more and haven't won in three years on any drawing because i refuse to play the numbers here.i did like you and bought a huge roll of jumbo bucks recently and didn't win nothing.i think i'll play the mega millions here soon because i've never played it but other than that i won't touch any other game here.i did get excited about arkansas and then of course they started out computerized.ball drawings are the integrity of the states lottery games.the computerized nonsense is doing the players wrong and here in tennessee sales did drop and hell was raised but hargrove held firm that everything was hunky dory.i still love playing so i mainly stick to powerball and mega millions now.luckily the states can't get its hands on those.

At some point the TN gaming commission is going to have to explain to the public about their lack of DOUBLES on their Eve Cash 3 game.  Again !

Not that there is anything so unbelievably wrong with going 22 days without a doubles....so far         but.... it's getting close to that time ...."Again. "

Once you lose your credibility getting caught and being bad.....lying to the public....and using computer draws ....this is going to be a question that comes up in these situations.

Check out that Doubles total figure down there for the last 3 months too........ not anywhere near 27%      While your at it check out the totals for 6 months as well.

                                                                                                                                           22 days?......  14% ?

Getting more interesting every draw.  Thinking of...

I think people are buying a lot of the new jackpot games because those games are new

in their states. Eventually the enthusiasm will die down and the sales will sag then there

will be talk of combining the two and create jackpots of half a billion dollars.
