Canada Lotto Max

Replaces the retiring Super 7 game

First drawing Friday, Sept. 25

Canada lottery players will have the opportunity to play a new nation-wide game starting in September.

Lotto Max tickets go on sale at lottery retailers throughout the country starting Sept. 19, 2009, with the first drawing held on Friday, Sept. 25, 2009.

The new multi-province game, which replaces the retiring Super 7 game, will offer additional $1 million prizes once the jackpot reaches $50 million.  Like Super 7, Lotto Max will have draws every Friday evening.

Tickets will cost $5 for a three-game play.  (The out-going Super 7 costs $2 per play, as does the current Lotto 6/49 game.)

"Lotto Max will give Canadians just what they have been asking for: high jackpots and more million dollar prizes," said British Columbia Lottery Corporation Vice president of Lottery Gaming and Interprovincial Lottery Corporation President Jim Lightbody. Speaking on behalf of Canada's five lottery corporations, Mr. Lightbody added that, "Lotto Max is an exceptional lottery game, whose Maxmillions prizes are about to transform the country's lottery landscape."

The new lottery game offers players a chance at winning jackpots that start at $10 million and can rise to $50 million. Once the jackpot exceeds $50 million, Lotto Max goes into Maxmillions mode, with the jackpot remaining at $50 million and the excess shared in a series of $1 million Maxmillions prizes.

All Maxmillions will have their own individual draws and sets of winning numbers.

The Lotto Max game will be run by the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation which works with the five lottery corporations owned by provincial governments.

As with all Canada lottery results, the winning numbers for Lotto Max will be presented each Friday following the drawing on Lottery Post's Worldwide Lottery Results page (www.lotterypost.com/results).

I have relatives in Canada.

I'm told lot of folks feared that the $2 per play increase for Lotto 6/49 would kill the game.

Guess what. Players weren't happy, but they kept on playing! In fact, sales increased, or so I've been told.

I bet some folks are saying that a $5 ticket (for 3 games) in LottoMax will stop folks from playing.

I doubt it!

The US lotteries should realize that raising the cost of lottery ticket to $2 probably wouldn't hurt the games.

I would pay an extra dollar, if the lower level prize amounts were raised.

My opinion, of course.

Same game as super 7. tickets cost more though. whoopee. instead of a 10$ win on 4 numbers, now you get 20$. would have liked a pick 4 or pick 5 game.

Thanks Todd for that info-much appreciated.

Collecting draw data can be a bit of a pain if one chooses to add all draws into one's data package. And more than likely several years will have to go by before any good can be garned from that data. I will wait and see how this lottery hangs, at 5$ a pop for 3 numbers is one really getting a good chance to win or is it just enough to be in their game.

I actually like the S7 game [8 numbers drawn] but would have enjoyed a much better prize structure below the millions that win. I will miss it.

In my mind there is NO first-class reason on earth that any lottery has to be more than 1$ to play. What is the justification to raise the play fee? The answer is: there isn't any. If you want to play government sponsored lotteries then you pay their price to do it!

I hear you on the $1 per play issue.  I think they are looking for any way possible to make jackpots rise faster -- that's probably 95% of the reason.

I wonder... Is this new game Lotto Max going to be an RNG Drawing??
