ATLANTA, Ga. — A lottery ticket tucked away in a wallet for months turned out to be a winner, worth $250,000.
Michael Johnson, of Lexington, Ky., bought the Mega Millions ticket during a business trip to metro Atlanta back in February.
He slipped the lottery ticket into his wallet and forgot about it.
Last week he found the three-month old ticket, checked the numbers, and found out he was holding a winning ticket.
He matched all five numbers in the drawing, but not the mega ball.
"I didn't scream. I called my wife and invited her to lunch," said Johnson, 41. "She didn't say much. She just started crying."
Johnson, who works full-time in sales and marketing and drives a school bus part-time, said he and his wife, Heather, have no immediate plans. With three children, the couple said they plan to "make the most of it."
"It's a wonderful amount," he exclaimed.
His wife would have cried even more if the ticket had expired worthless.
awwwwwwwwww! sweet.
This is twice where someone found a ticket worth hundreds of thousands they forgot about. I find that amazing. I can promise you that you will never read a story like that about me, cause I check my tics right after the drawings.
I use to feel the same way you do. But lately, life has been so busy that my hobby has had to take the backburner. I forgot to check my tickets twice this past weekend. It's becoming a habit, I think. I have a daughter going to college in the fall who has ran me ragged. We have had a jam-packed schedule ever since Christmas.
Thats the most awesomest story I've ever read on here....way to go Kentucky winners.Bless her heart,I know she was happy. Now that's the way I like to hear about everyday hard working people trying to get a hit....
Yah, especially with the uncertain economy her cry would have been heard all the way in Washington DC
Happy for the family.
Some of these storie's are sometimes hard to believe..Maybe some are made up so they get a good write up??..Like a poster said I check my tickets right away........
Luckily, he found the ticket before it expired.
We know you guys check your ticket after each drawing - you guys are on this site every other day.
Like someone suggested it might be best to buy you ticket and forget about it.
editgap...I've tried about everything..I've played the lottery since around 1986 when it started in Fla and still play it here in Ky..Not sure if it was 1986 or 1988?..Maybe I'll try you idea and buy a ticket and put in my wallet for about 2 months then check it?..Best tell my wife what I'm doing in case I drop dead??
