One of the most valuable franchises in sports may have just gotten a little bit more valuable.

According the Associated Press, the Washington Redskins, who Forbes listed as the third most-valuable team in sports in January, became the second NFL franchise to reach a licensing agreement with a state lottery, announcing their deal on Friday.

The New England Patriots were the first, publicizing their agreement on Thursday, just one day after the issue was voted on by NFL owners.

Though the league has attempted to strongly dissociate itself from gambling in the past, the new provision allowing teams to partner with their state lotteries was approved in order to help organizations dealing with the country's weak economy.

So far, the Patriots and Redskins have wasted no time capitalizing on the opportunity, already reaching deals to allow Massachusetts and Virginia state lotteries to issue tickets with the respective franchises' logos on them.

"We envision a game that will link lottery fans with the Redskins in new and exciting ways," Redskins chief operating officer Mitch Gershman told the AP on Friday.

Several other teams are rumored to be discussing terms with their state lotteries, including the Detroit Lions, the Minnesota Vikings, the Tennessee Titans, the Green Bay Packers and all three New York/New Jersey teams — the Bills, the Giants and the Jets. Only the San Diego Chargers and Cincinnati Bengals have come out as saying they are not interested.
