Arkansas lottery approaches final votes this week

Arkansas Lottery

After months of negotiations, Arkansas lawmakers plan to give their final seal of approval this week to the state's new lottery and scholarship program.

Voters approved the games last November, and legislative leaders filed shell bills that same month to put in place the lottery, which will fund college scholarships for Arkansas students.

The House and Senate are expected to cast final votes Monday on the lottery measure, which calls for scholarships for any student with a 2.5 grade point average, and to send the measure on to Gov. Mike Beebe. The governor has said he'll sign the bill, which has passed both chambers without a single 'no.'

Last week, House Speaker Robbie Wills reassured lawmakers that, if something in the bill doesn't work out right, they can fix it in the fiscal session next year or in future sessions down the road. Lottery bill crafters say they're working on a cleanup bill to clarify the salary cap for the lottery's top officials.

"If there's a better way to do it, this Legislature and General Assemblies in the future will have every opportunity to tweak this," said Wills, D-Conway. "We'll continue to adjust and adapt to the conditions that are presented to us."

I feel that not all states should make the profits from lottery go to education, i feel that some states should let it go to education and other a small portion let it go to research into finding the cure to alzheimers, or cancer or other diseases...

i got this idea from you lotteryjunkie99....

I can't wait until we get the lotto here in Arkansas. From what I hear, they are trying to have it up and running by October.

I hope arkansa is the first state to do the following...

"I saw that ohio have this 200 million extreme cash in prizes...And it hit me, why don't they have a tri-state scratchoff...They could surely raise the 100 million dollar prize line...When i say 100 million dollars scratchoff i mean 100 million dollars given to 1 person, that's what i meant...And you may say? Oh but the winning ticket will be in 1 state, is correct but i am not talking about just 1 scratchoff, but a handful that way the several winning tickets will be in all 3 states..."

I think this is the future of scratchoffs...

I hope Arkansa join other states and become a tri-state or penta-state to offer scratchoffs that will pay 100 million dollars to one person and have several of them so that the winning ticket they have it in each state...
