Second jackpot-winning Powerball ticket sold in Pennsylvania this month

Pennsylvania Lottery officials today announced that a York business sold the only winning ticket in the $58.6 million, Oct. 29, Powerball jackpot.

"We are pleased to announce that Bookland sold the winning ticket from Wednesday night's drawing," said Ed Trees, executive director of the Pennsylvania Lottery. "This is the second jackpot-winning Powerball ticket sold in Pennsylvania this month."

Bookland, 2114 S. Queen St., has been a Lottery retailer since 2002 and will receive a $100,000 bonus for selling the winning jackpot ticket.

Wednesday's winning ticket matched all five white balls, 20-30-37-50-52, and the red Powerball number, 33. The winning ticket has an annuity value of $58.6 million and a cash value of $30.2 million, less 25 percent federal withholding.

Powerball winners have one year from the drawing date to claim prizes. Each jackpot winner has 60 days from the date he or she claims the prize to decide between 30 annuity payments over 29 years, or a one-time cash payment.

Lottery officials cannot confirm the identity of the Oct. 29 winner until the prize is claimed and the ticket is validated. No claim has been filed.

The Lottery encourages the holder of the winning Powerball ticket to sign the back of the ticket, contact a financial advisor, then call the PA Lottery at (717) 702-8146. Powerball jackpot prizes must be claimed at Lottery headquarters, 1200 Fulling Mill Rd., Middletown, Dauphin County. Claims may be filed between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

This is the 12th jackpot-winning Powerball ticket the Pennsylvania Lottery has sold since it joined the game in 2002. Earlier this month, 22 postal workers from Delaware County won a $10.2 million Powerball jackpot.

The Powerball jackpot returns to an estimated $15 million annuity and $7.7 million cash prize for the Nov. 1 drawing.
Powerball tickets are sold in 29 states, the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands.

To play Powerball, players pay $1 and select five white balls from the first set of 55 numbers, plus a single red ball, the Powerball, from a second set of 42 numbers. Players may select their own numbers using Powerball play slips, or they may opt for computer-selected quick picks. Players must match all five numbers drawn plus the Powerball number to win the jackpot. There also are eight additional ways for players to win cash prizes.

Powerball features an option called PowerPlay. For an extra $1 per Powerball play (game), players can multiply their Powerball prizes by 2, 3, 4 or 5 times the original prize amount for all prizes except the jackpot. Prizes can multiply up to $1 million.

I wonder why they didn't mention that 3 out of the last 4 winning Powerball tickets were sold in Pennsylvania.I guess they didn't want to rub it in.

MAY  I SAY.....WOWOOWWOWOWOOW!!!!

hehehehehe....now thats just ridiculous, Pennsylvania.....don't get me wrong please, but there are 50 States in the Union and at least 12 of them excluding Pennsylvania, are members of that exclusive Club called '"POWERBALL"...why then are sooooo many winnners from that state alone??. In fact,  "Quick Pick" is just a "Quick Joke" in the District of Columbia....which may I say is also a member of that exclusive club.........;....)  What going on in PA ???? What's the recipe?

I played in WV last time ahead several drawings so it's not me, but in a city that I've been to many times and know several people there. We didn't stop in York but in Beford. York is a populated area and you'll notice that a lot of the winners in PA are also near cities. If you played in a lower populated area like WV and they say "one winner in WV" you can imagine how I felt on Christmas 2002 until the next morning.

Actually, near Christmas 2000 or 20002, someone in the District of Columbia won the POWERBALL JACKPOT having used their own number series,  at a store in South West Washington.  I remember because I emailed the Powerball headquarters about it, for more detailed information.  The winner remained anonymous, but the reps did elaborate as much as possible for the public knowledge.  It wasn't hundreds of millions but it was a very big kitty just the same.  No one has won in the District since then.  But I promise to keep trying ........;...)
