The Virginia Lottery's latest raffle-style game, Virginia's 20th Birthday Raffle, was drawn Saturday, and made one instant millionaire.

Virginia's 20th Birthday Raffle is a raffle game offered by the Virginia Lottery, with a limited period of availability of $5 tickets.

The Birthday raffle differed from most other raffles conducted by Virginia and other states, that there was no limit on the number of tickets available — only a restriction on the dates that tickets were available for sale.

A total of 226,331 tickets were sold between September 1 and September 19.  The winning numbers were announced at 11:00 PM on the 20th.

In addition to the top prize of a $1 million annuity jackpot, other prizes include 3 winners of $20,000 and 2,000 winners of $20.

Each raffle ticket contains a unique, seven-digit number issued sequentially across the state from the Lottery's central computer, starting with number 0000001.  The last raffle ticket issued for the game contained the raffle ticket number 0226331.

The seven-digit number printed on the ticket must match the seven-digit raffle number combination selected in the drawing — in the exact sequence in which it was selected — to be considered a winning ticket.

The $1 million annuity jackpot is paid out in equal payments over 20 years.

Winning tickets may be redeemed up to 180 days after the drawing date — March 19, 2009.
