The New Jersey Lottery's computer system is back on-line, after being down for about 3½ hours this afternoon, officials said.
The disruption in service, which shut down Lottery machines throughout the state and caused a delay in the drawing of the Satuday midday numbers, was blamed on high winds and heavy rains that hit the state today.
Lottery machines went down about 12:30 p.m. Service was restored shortly before 4 p.m., said Dominick DeMarco, a spokesman for the Lottery Commission.
Shorty after the system was put back online, the agency held non-televised drawings for the Pick Three and Pick Four mid-day jackpots. An independent auditor observed the drawing, DeMarco said.
The winning Pick Three numbers were 8-6-6. The winning Pick Four numbers were 9-1-3-5.
This evening's Pick Three, Pick Four and Jersey Cash Five drawings are expected to be held as scheduled, DeMarco said.
"We apologize to anyone who was inconvenienced by this," DeMarco said. "We wanted to make sure that everyone who wanted to play had a chance to play."

This bad weather may also effect the number of PowerBall tickets sold for tonight drawing. I doubt if as many players in the mid and eastern states next to PB states will be making a road trip to pick up tickets for tonight drawings as usual when the jackpot is $200M.

I lived in NJ for a while. Was always amazed at the timing of their access failures. Must be paranoia left over from watching their government representatives in action. Kept waiting for them to move the state capitol to the state prison. They would save a fortune on milage expenses.
I was wrong, according to LottoReport website, sales of PB tickets went from $35,921,579 on 03/05/08 to $47,264,359 on 03/08/08, a 31% increase. Ohio players had to drive through the blizzard of 08 to get their tickets in neighboring states.
With a cash value of $113M (before deductions), a lot of people will do unbelieveable things to get at it. If you wreck your car to buy a ticket, is that considered a gambling loss? Hummmmmm.
