Special delivery for post office employee
A Manchester, Connecticut, resident and postal worker is set for life. Ken Brenton won the Connecticut Lottery's new scratch and win game "Set for Life."
Brenton said after getting his hair cut Tuesday he walked a few doors down the street and bought two scratch tickets at the Forest Package Store. When neither ticket yielded any prizes, he opted to buy one more.
Scratching the ticket, Brenton revealed a number "3" and noticed it matched the "Winning Number" needed to win a prize. It wasn't until Brenton scratched the prize amount and read the words "Set for Life" that he realized he'd just won $100,000 a year for the rest of his life.
"It was the last thing I expected," Brenton said.
Brenton, along with a family member, went to the Connecticut Lottery headquarters in New Britain late Tuesday afternoon to collect his first prize. After taxes, he collected $70,002.
Brenton said the prize will be valuable to his long-term retirement plans.
Similar in style to the Connecticut Lottery's popular game "Win for Life" (win $5,000 a month for life), the top prize of "Set for Life" (win $100,000 a year for life) is determined by the lifespan of its winners. A minimum win of $2 million is guaranteed to top prize winners, but that amount can increase significantly based on a winner's longevity.
There are three more top prizes available in Set for Life. The odds of winning a prize are 1 in 4.31. Odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 1,050,000.
Richard Husbands, the owner of Forest Package Store, located at 1065 Main Street in Manchester, will receive a $20,000 selling bonus check from the CT Lottery.

Having retired from the Postal Service 3 years ago, I know that $70,000 a year would definitely have me, "Set for life". He looks like he's still a few years away from retirement so he will have a nice nest egg built up by then. Hopefully, he will not retire right away.
