South Dakota

The first-ever state lottery raffle will be held later this year to mark the 20th anniversary of legalized lottery games in South Dakota.

Lottery Advertising and Public Relations Director Mike Mueller says 100,000 of the $10 tickets will go on sale September 30th.

The drawing for the top prize of $250,000 will be held on New Years Eve unless the tickets sell out much earlier. There will be five prizes of $25,000 and 250 prizes of $500.

Mueller says the state stands to make $309,000 from the raffle.

Ticket numbers will be sequential, although people can pick their own numbers if they are in the range of 1 through 100,000.

Once a number is picked, no one else can have it.

Mueller says the game will be called Dakota Raffle.
