Kentucky Lottery raffle drawing date set

The Kentucky Lottery raffle game named after the date it was to be drawn on is now set to take place about a month later.

Several state lotteries in the United States used the perceived lucky digits in the date "7/7/07" to hold special drawings and promotions on that day.  The Kentucky Lottery promoted a special raffle drawing created for the date, calling the game "Lucky 7's".

As the date approached, it became apparent that ticket sales for the raffle were not high enough to support the drawing, so Lottery officials decided to postpone the drawing, while still honoring all the prizes that were previously announced for the game.

The drawing date for Lucky 7's has now been set for one month from today:  August 13th.  On that day, all 734 winning numbers will be drawn, with a pair of $500,000 cash prizes leading the way.

This drawing date is firm and will not be changed even if the remaining 240,000 tickets are not sold, said the KLC's President and CEO Arch Gleason.

"We made the decision to go ahead and set a draw date now after hearing player concerns about when the drawing would take place," Gleason said. "While we wish the drawing could have been held on its original date (July 7th), I think we've found an appropriate way to balance treating our players fairly while ensuring the young people in our state who count on our scholarship and grant programs wouldn't be adversely affected."

"We regret any confusion, disappointment or inconvenience caused to our players by the drawing postponement," Gleason said.

On the day of the drawing, 734 numbers will be drawn by a random number generator. Players will still have 180 days from Tuesday, August 14th to cash winning tickets.

The first two numbers drawn will be the winning ticket numbers for the pair of $500,000 cash prizes. The next two numbers drawn will each be entitled to the second prize of $25,000; the next 30 numbers drawn will each be entitled to the third prize of $5,000; and the next 700 numbers drawn will each be entitled to the fourth prize of $250.

The winning numbers for the top two prizes will be announced on the Kentucky Lottery's televised drawing show the evening of August 13th.

All 734 winning numbers will be available by the following morning, and winning tickets can be cashed starting that day.

Players can find all Kentucky Lottery winning numbers and the Lucky 7's results via the Lottery Post web site (www.lotterypost.com/results/ky).

I know. I started to buy tickets for this game, but the whole magic of the game was going to be the draw date of 7-7-07. When they changed the date, they changed the meaning of the raffle. Although, I still like the name of the raffle and may just yet buy a ticket.

On the positive side, it can make you just as wealthy, no matter what day it's drawn on!

I'm sure there are some disappointed Kentucky players, but my opinion is that your lottery did right by you.  All the prizes are being awarded, no matter what.  There's something to be said for that.  The word "honesty" comes to mind.

Good luck with it - I hope you win some big bucks!

Thanks Todd, for the good luck wish. You know I always appreciate it when someone wishes me well. And just so you know, it doesn't happen that often.

It can win you a small fortune, yes, but the odds are now much worse.

Huh?  The odds of winning are incredibly better because there are fewer tickets out there.

i think you are right todd because if they sold all 500,000 tickets then the odds of winning one of the $500,000 top prizes was 1 in 250,000 so if they only end up selling 400,000 tickets then the odds will change to 1 in 200,000... Dance

Yes!  That's why these raffles are really fantastic jackpot games.

Indiana will be the next state to fall victim to the raffle blues.  People are catching on that on a dollar per dollar basis these games are not that good. Indiana has only sold 33k in 15 days, at this rate only 100k tickets will be sold. I am sure this one will get pushed back too.

If you had 1 ticket & they had 1 ticket you would still loose
