It's been a lucky few weeks for a Texas soldier serving in Iraq.
He won part of a $12 million dollar Lotto Texas jackpot, and now he's home.
Lottery officials say the big winner in the May 23rd drawing was the Las Colinas Lottery Group.
More than two dozen people pooled their money, at 20 bucks a month, to play.
Among them was Master Sergeant Bethurel Griffin of Arlington. He deployed to Iraq in June of 2006, but Griffin had paid — in advance — to stay in the lotto pool.
Griffin was overseas when he received an e-mail letting him know the group won. Representatives picked up the jackpot on June 22nd, taking the cash value option worth more than $7 million dollars.
Griffin recently arrived home to claim his share — about $200,000.
He says it would be nice if every soldier could have a "pay day like this."

Congrads. This kind of reminds me of a few years back a soldier was stationed in Korea and came back here to the states on leave, bought a lottery ticket, and won the jackpot. It was the Mega Millions and the ticket was sold in GA. Here's the story....

After serving in the Army it's good to see stories like this.
Now that's a good 4th of July story.
I hope the soldier doesn't have financial problems later in life. Did he take cash value or payments?
