Retired salesman Daniel Casey of Fort Pierce, Fla., is one of two winners to match the first five of six winning numbers — worth $250,000 — in the April 24 Mega Millions drawing, Georgia Lottery officials have announced.
Casey, 75, purchased his lucky ticket in Port Wentworth at the Pilot Travel Center on Ga. 21. Winning numbers for the April 24 Mega Millions drawing were: 8-10-35-36-43, and the Mega Ball was 14.
Casey said he was traveling to visit family in Connecticut when he stopped for gasoline. He learned of the winning numbers while drinking his morning coffee.
"I called the Georgia Lottery hot line, and they confirmed it for me," he said. "This is a nice surprise."
Casey and his wife, Sandra, have six adult children and 12 grandchildren. He said he and his wife plan to redecorate their condominium and purchase a new car. They also might go on a vacation to Ireland.
The second winning ticket for the drawing was purchased in Williamson, but the purchaser had not been identified as of Friday.
As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Mega Millions will benefit public education in Georgia.
75 years old? Lol, let me be young enough to enjoy it when I win it ! I just found out my hubby was holding some tickets from way back in March. I told him, "you know, you are the very type of person I bitch about on LP all the time. People purhase tickets and then don't check them until months down the road, only to find out they were the winner." Unfortunately, looking at that draw, we don't appear to have won anything yet.

Hi, Spy. I know you are only kidding around and saying you don't want to wait so long (neither do I) so I am trying to write this without sounding argumentative. Here goes...
I've seen so many remarks like this on Lottery Post, and I always want to shake the member who writes it. Being 75 is not the same as being dead and this man looks as if he'll be enjoying his prize for a long time. After taxes, he'll probably only get about $150,000 anyway.
A few years ago I worked in a furniture store with an aggressive salesperson who drove me crazy because she tried to run circles around me. She was 82. In the next store, the top producer was a 74 year old man. On another note, my next door neighbor is 70 with a bad heart and I bet if she won a little money she could quit her job at the laundromat. My other neighbor, who is 78 looks very tired after work. He checks out groceries at the supermarket all day.
So maybe people should look at this in a different way. An older person might appreciate winning even more, because she's struggled all her life and can finally enjoy the rest of it comfortably!

*Ditto*Couldn't have said it better myself. Look around us everyday. There are so many many folks who could really use this money. We all want to win it when we're young enough to Rock n Roll all night. I'm 52 and guess what........I want it as bad as I did many many years ago. And my plans remain the same.....retire, move to the coast, etc.
Sometimes we all speak before we stop to think and I'm sure that's what happened. Come to think of it.....I probably said the same thing 30 years ago.
Congrats on your win! Enjoy in health and happiness! That trip to Ireland sounds too cool!
I've often thought about a person being better off hitting a jackpot later on in life. As you get older your values are going to change. Perhaps if you win a jackpot in your younger years you would blow it on things that would become absolutely meaningless to you later on.
(Of course, the older you get without having hit one, the more you're going to find yourself thinking this way )
