Mega Millions

Virginia Lottery officials say time is running out for the person who bought a winning $250,000 ticket in Virginia Beach.  That ticket is about to expire.

Someone bought a Mega Millions ticket for the October 17, 2006 drawing at Food Eagle at 2021 Independence Blvd. in Virginia Beach.

According to Virginia Lottery rules the ticket expires after 180 days, which will occur at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 16.

The winning numbers for that drawing were 06-18-20-28-38, and the Mega Ball number was 37. The ticket matched the first five numbers and missed only the Mega Ball number. The owner of that ticket needs to contact the Virginia Lottery as soon as possible.

By law, all Virginia Lottery unclaimed prize money goes to the state Literary Fund. The Literary Fund is used solely for educational purposes, such as school construction, renovation, and teacher retirement funding.

Here is another example of person who might have:

1. Passed through Viriginia and forgot about the ticket,

2. Misplaced the ticket but the ticket is in his or her home,

3. Lost the ticket,

4. Become ill and is unable to redeem the ticket,

5. Passed away.

Although these are viable options, I wouldn't want to be in his or her shoes at this time. Yes, he or she could redeem the ticket at 4:45 p.m. on the deadline date, Monday, April 16. However, I hope the individual does not thrive on a high adrenaline rush!

I hope the $250000 prize gets claimed to step forward.

i hope someone finds it and claims it...............

If it isn't claimed, I sure hope the person never finds out about it. The what-if's would kill me.

i agree i wouldnt want to know if i let my ticket expire because i would feel like crap for the rest of my life or until i win a jackpot that size or bigger in the future. thats why i dont check the lottery numbers the drawings i forget to play because if i see my numbers pop up ill be really sick that i didnt play...

Easy come easy go, that's what happens when someone buys a lottery ticket and treats it like a scrap piece of paper or a store receipt before checking to see if it's a loser.

One more viable option might be that the person put the ticket on the seat of his car with his pooch in the back; the pooch jumped into the front seat and grabbed the ticket in his mouth; pet owner attempted to grab ticket from pooch's mouth and ripped the ticket in two with pooch chewing on some of the numbers and swallowing them; so pet owner will never know he had purchased a 2nd tier winning lottery ticket; good thing for pooch that he'll never know or else I'd hate to think what might become of pooch!

Another viable option might be that the person put the ticket on the seat of his car after coming from the beach with friends; friend hopped in the front seat with wet bathing suit on causing ticket to stick to buttocks; friend got out and ticket became unsealed from buttocks and blew away; good thing ticket buyer never knew he had purchased a winning ticket or else that friendship could easily come to an end!

OldSchoolPa, I never thought about other options, either. You need to be on Comedy Central because you are a riot!  What creativity, spunk, and zeast for life.  Keep up the humor...and supposed the dog ate the ticket.  I guess the vet would perform a dogectomy!

When I was at Stop&Shop playing Pickits I found a Mega ticket facedown on the floor. It was for this Friday's upcoming drawing. I handed it to the clerk and told her someone dropped it. I have not been to Virginia since 2004 so I wasn't there to pick up any lost tickets.
