Mega Millions

Here are the numbers with the power to permanently transform a person's life:

16-22-29-39-42, Mega Ball: 20

Millions of people holding tickets for tonight's Mega Millions lottery drawing are checking their numbers to see if they will be that lucky soul whose life will instantly change.

The jackpot of $370 million, which has a lump-sum cash value of $221 million, will be shared by any tickets matching all five numbers and the Mega Ball.  If only one ticket matches all six numbers, the entire prize will go to the holder of that one ticket.

What's the first thing you should do if you win?  "Sign the back of the ticket immediately," says Todd Northrop, owner of Lottery Post, a popular Internet destination for lottery players.  "Winning lottery tickets are bearer documents, so your signature is the first step in proving your ownership when you redeem it."

Finding a safe place to keep the ticket is among the next steps for a jackpot winner.

"There are some important things to keep in mind once you begin to calm down, such as keeping quiet about your win, and only telling people close to you who won't spread it around," Northrop explained.  "Also, keep the ticket safe and secure, without telling many people where it's being kept; change your phone number immediately; don't make promises to anyone; and assemble a team of trusted advisers before even thinking about claiming the prize."

"Oh, and don't forget to mention Lottery Post at the press conference."

The $370 million jackpot is an estimated number, based on sales numbers from the twelve Mega Millions states.  It is likely that the amount will by increased after all the final sales figures are tallied.

This Mega Millions jackpot is the largest lottery prize ever awarded.  The previous record-holder was Powerball, at $365 million on February 18, 2006, which was claimed by 8 meat plant workers in Nebraska.

To mark the occasion, the Mega Millions states decided to hold the drawing in New York's Times Square, which was the site of past momentous Mega Millions drawings.

Yolanda Vega, the legendary New York Lottery hostess, announced the winning numbers as they were drawn.

In a couple hours' time the world will know if one or more tickets matched all six numbers, or if the jackpot will rise even further for Friday's drawing.

Good hit RJOh.  I had 48 tickets with one MB.  Think that is $2. My tickets are also from OH so I'm hoping the winner coming on Friday will be a Buckeye.  Also the numbers were middling high which wipes out the BD crowd

What could the prize get to if No One matched all six numbers?

I came up with zip this try. Only I need some more money, cause I am out of work, and have a graduating high school student that wants to attend U.I. C.  for a four year degree. I am looking for work everyday.

A lottery payday would help out tremendously.Cool

I didn't even hit a mega ball and on one of the tickets I had two kicker numbers but said "No".

I hope somebody hits; I don't want to play this game any more.

I am a lotto retailer in NJ. I printed out the results for the megamillions at around 11:30 pm and can confirm that one person did indeed win the  jackpot in a lump sum cash payment of 221 million.

I am not however sure of the location, we'll get that tomorrow.

Edit:

Here's a picture worth a thousand words that I'm willing to trade for anyone holding the ticket worth 221 million. Guy can dream, can't he ?

I dont know what exactly that photo proves...

I will  be very surprised if nobody did win the Jackpot...

But with no news reports out as of yet  .. you gotta wonder..

Many MM states (including NJ) require that you select Annuity or Cash at the time of purchase.

What I don't understand is if they had these results at 11:30 PM, why wait? Or are these the NJ only results, and maybe they are still doing the search for more winners in other states.

I just checked the Illinois lottery site, and it has 3 winners of $250000 (5 BALLS, no mega), and NO NO NO jackpot winner.  In my experience, ALL winners of all states are indicated, but addresses of locations sold are only shown for Illinois winners.  Also, by this picture, it looks like the top line shows NO winners; the notation next to the "5/5" rows I don't know how to interpret.  Since I got nothin' for my $19, I hope a smart, worthy person(s) DID win, or nobody, so I can go for the $470 (+) on Friday! Congrats on all who lived through the suspense, either way!

nypaplayer

Well I spent ten dollars had three of the main numbers but all different games of course.  I did however have the mega ball in one of the games so I did when two dollars.  However I am still out 8 thought.  Well at least I got something. lolYawn

Those are the New Jersey winners only listed on that ticket.    You can get the same kind at your lottery retailer for your own states winners in the same format.   A is for annuity and C is for cash value.     In NJ, there was one winner and they took the cash value.    There could be winners in other states though.

Aww JerseyDevil, I knew I hadn't won the JP but I was hoping no one else had either...Thud

Congrats to the winner(s)!

Next time JMaxwell. Then again, I just thought about this, the results could be wrong ? Dunno, until it's official.

I am leaving for work and just checked my numbers. I know I didn't win, but there is no official confirmation who or how many people have won the jackpot. It never takes this long, but I'm so eager to see where the winner came from. If they had these results so early, what's taking so long? They have to be done sorting through tickets by now.

NoCompLotto!

From what I have seen via AP Reports, the Ohio Lottery's computer went down at about 10:25 last night, and they won;t be able to get it up until today... don't know if this is related to why there is no conformation as of yet, but thought I would chime in on why I thought it isn't up yet.

35 tickets and one match on the mega ball for $2

CRAP !!!

MegaWinner's avatarMegaWinner

I hope this is a fake...

smd173

It's not a fake, and honestly, who would take the time to fake the "results" ticket?

JerseyDevil

Thanks SMD. Yup, I'm part of the lotto conspiracy to keep the good folk down. LOL. Newsflash for everyone, because of Cali and there machine problems, no winning megamillions tickets whether for $2 or the JP can be cashed in. The function is currently suppressed. I feel for the guys and gals who'll be going through there tickets  1 by 1, especially that one guy who wanted me to check 257 plays.

Please let it be my store, please, please, please.

They just had on tonights news the guy from Georgia who came forth today to claim the ticket there.

Thank you to the lottery agent in New Jersey who was earnest in aiding all here who were anxious to know some of the results. It behooves some here to eat humble pie for the unkind words said about your authentic results.  I for one am pleased that it was only two ticket claimants.  Yet more pleased to be one of the 5.3 million folks who get to claim a prize!  (Yipee won three dollars!)

My blessings and well wishes to the jackpot winners!!!
