Insider Buzz

An elderly woman from Bismarck, North Dakota, reportedly has been fleeced of more than $100,000 in an apparent lottery scam.

According to a report filed recently at the Bismarck Police Department, a 70-year-old woman has contributed more than $100,000 to the scam since January 2003, including more than $50,000 in the last year.

An employee at a local convenience store phoned police after watching the woman wire large amounts of cash on several occasions.

According to the report, the money was being sent to an account in British Columbia, though the woman was reportedly told that she had won $7.1 million in the Florida lottery and needed to send the money to ensure she'd be paid.

The case has been forwarded to the North Dakota attorney general's office.

This sux!  The elderly are so prone to this type of scam, and it's really sad.  I'm glad that someone caught on to this and helped her out.

After $100,000 have been paid, hopefully she can get her money back.

It just seems incredible to me that anyone would continue believing this for almost 4 years. Hopefully, the police will be able to catch this lowlife.

Perhaps, the police need to start setting up some sting operations like they do for online sexual predators.
