Two new New York Lottery millionaires announced last week have a lot in common; both are from Dutchess County, both are fathers, and both plan to use some of their million to send their son's to college.
Sylvester Cuomo of Poughkeepsie is a Union Laborer who buys a few New York Lottery scratch-off tickets every week. On Saturday, August 5th, Cuomo went to his local Getty Gas station bright and early at 6:30 am to pick up his weekly scratch-off tickets. When he started scratching the New York Poker ticket, he knew he had won right away by matching two Queens for the winning hand. Cuomo is a 50 year old father of three and grandfather of one. He plans to help his son pay for school and to buy a new home for his family.
This is not the first time that fortune has found Cuomo. He also won $10,000 once before playing Win 4.
The New York Poker Instant scratch-off is a $5 dollar ticket with 5 chances to win up to $1 million. Overall odds of winning any prize on the New York Poker game are 1 in 4.08. Cuomo will receive his $1 million prize in annual installments of $50,000, before required tax withholdings. The winning ticket was purchased at Arlington Getty Mart located at 813 Main Street in Poughkeepsie.
Like Cuomo, Edward "Ned" Casey collected his jackpot prize today from the New York Lottery. The 69 year old father of two and grandfather of one also plans to pay for his son's college education. Casey is a Construction Worker who likes to golf with his wife in his spare time. In addition to paying for his son's education, Casey plans to save his fortune for retirement and take his wife on a nice trip.
This is the first time Casey has ever won a big prize from the New York Lottery.
Casey is one of six individual ticket-holders from the July 29th drawing for an $8 million Lotto jackpot prize. His share of the jackpot winnings shared by the six winners is $1.3 million.
Casey purchased his winning Lotto ticket at Stewart's Shops located at 3649 Albany Post Road in Poughkeepsie where the press conference was held today announcing the two millionaires. He chose to receive the $1.3 million prize in a lump sum amount totaling $668,873 before required tax withholdings. The lump sum amount equals what it would cost the Lottery to finance the advertised jackpot over 26 years, the standard annuity period.
The winning numbers for New York's July 29th Lotto drawing were 5-10-15-25-30-35, Bonus# 53.
