An executive with the Ohio Lottery was appointed on Thursday to replace Tom Hayes as director.

Mike Abouserhal, 47, the lottery's assistant director managing the agency's finance and administration, takes over on Saturday.

Hayes resigned effective Friday to pursue private business opportunities, but he has also accepted a temporary job with Cuyahoga County as project manager for the county's board of elections.

The elections board is attempting to fix flaws in the May primary and prepare for the Nov. 7 general election. Hayes is a former elections director in the county.

Abouserhal came to the lottery from Cleveland city government where he was assistant finance director from 2002 to 2005. Before that, he worked as a state deputy auditor.

I hope Mr. Abouseral can help bring back Ohio SLP. I want to see LOP go, but I don't want Ohio SLP to be computerized or lose for life system.
