A Broome County woman who bought a Lotto ticket in Brooklyn won a $45 million jackpot — a county record.

The New York Lottery is scheduled to identify the winner this morning.

Lottery spokeswoman Jennifer Mauer said the woman bought the ticket June 28 at David's Check Cashing in New York City. The winning numbers were announced the same night.

The woman's winnings will eclipse the record $25 million won in 1998 by Binghamton resident William Yonkoski, a carpenter who bought his ticket at the former Fort Apache Market in Binghamton.

The latest winner chose the lump-sum option and will receive a pre-tax $22,156,834 — the amount it would cost the lottery to finance the advertised jackpot over a standard annuity period of 26 years.

A Tioga County man, Floyd "Vic" Hooker of Owego, also won $45 million, in 1999.

Hooker bought his ticket on St. Patrick's Day at the Parkview Restaurant in Owego, an Irish pub where he worked part time as a janitor.

Past Southern Tier Lotto winners include:

Lottery officials plan to reveal the name of the latest winner during a press conference at 11:30 this morning at the Traditions at the Glen Resort & Conference Center in Union.

The chances of winning the Lotto are 1 in 22 million, Mauer said.

CASH Only

The timing of the "winner" coming forward is interesting...just after the drawing with the most ridiculous prizes in NY Lotto history.

IMHO the NY Lotto jackpot will never again reach $45m under the current (6/59) format, unless the prize pool is raised to at least 50%.

I wouldn't expect you to say anything other than what you did.  However, I'm very happy that most people do not go around embodying such negativity all the time.  I'll bet the winner is not so worried about your negative comments.  NY Lotto is turning out some nice jackpots!

CASH Only

NY Lotto has been ripping off lower-tier winners for nearly 28 years (since November 1978.) And if it takes another 28 years for NY Lotto to hike its payout to 50%, I'll keep complaining.

I hope the winner steps forward and takes cash.
