A glitch caused by a "routine software update" knocked Georgia's lottery network offline early Monday, leaving customers and retailers unable to print or redeem tickets for the games.
"It was a technical issue that happened as a result of a routine software update," said J.B. Landroche, the vice president of corporate affairs for Georgia Lottery Corp .
Mr. Landroche said the machines went down early Monday morning, and most had service restored late in the afternoon. He said all the machines should be back online by this morning.
Stores that sold the tickets and those who wanted to buy them had called the corporation to ask about the situation, Mr. Landroche said. He said the lottery corporation would work to make sure the system wasn't knocked down again.
The schedules for drawings weren't affected, Mr. Landroche said.
But shortly after 5 p.m., the machines at Riverfront Pub & Sports in Augusta still weren't in working order, said Katie Hensley, a bartender and waitress there. She said some other nearby retailers did get service restored during the day.
Ms. Hensley said the machines were down by the time she came in at 8:45 a.m. and had stayed that way all day.
"I've had customers sitting here for two hours waiting for the machines to come up," Ms. Hensley said.
