Mega Millions

The jackpot in the multi-state Mega Millions lottery grew to $77 million Tuesday.

None of the tickets sold for Tuesday's $65 million drawing matched all five lotto numbers and the Mega Ball. The next drawing will be Friday.

There were eight second-prize winners from Tuesday night's drawing: 1 from Georgia, 1 from Maryland, 1 from New Jersey, 1 from New York, 1 from Ohio, 1 from Texas, and 2 from Virginia.  Each ticket matched five numbers, but not the Mega Ball number, to win $250,000.

Another 23 players matched four of the five lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000, except in California, where prizes amounts are pari-mutuel (calculated from the amount of sales and number of winners).

All California prize amounts, as well as all other drawing information, can be found on USA Mega's Drawing Detail page.

The winning numbers from Tuesday's drawing were: 24-30-42-53-54. The Mega Ball number was 20.

The Texas Megaplier was 4.

Quietly sneaking up into the big bucks. Everyone is hyped about PP, so it gets all the discussion. Squeeky wheel theory.

Did you check out the Drawing Info page at USA Mega?  California 4+1 winners once again got much more than the other MM states -- $23,434 each!

Also, the California 5+0 pool continues to rise.  I really like those pari-mutuel payouts in California.  It can be a bad thing, but more often it's been a good thing.

Todd, I did check the number of winners. Since no one in CA match the 5/5 prize, I think the 5/5 payout in CA is progressive like in the slot machines.

Yes, I know -- we have talked about this many times before!

It seems like it will get up to $200 million pretty quickly.

Let's hope it can keep on rolling....

Mega Millions is trying to roll past $100m for the 7th consecutive time!  The jackpot has not been hit for under $100 million since December 3rd of last year.  Something tells me that we're overdue for a couple of smaller jackpot winners, even with the new odds.

I think you are right Jag - at this point it's more likely it's going to get hit below the 100 million mark than above it.

I believe you are wrong on that.  It is not more likely to hit under 100 million.  The jackpot is only at $77 million and the most tickets we sold so far on this run is a little of $21,000,000.  21 out of 170 million is not a big enough chance to say that we should start selling more pre $100 million jackpot winners.  I mean it will happen but it will be like the jackpot reaching $300 million. (those two circumstances should have around the same odds)

In Mega Millions, it takes about $199 million in sales to advertise a jackpot of $100 million!  Birthday numbers, Texas Megaplier sales aside, it seems that the jackpot has about a 50/50 chance of rolling to $100 million on any given cycle.  That's with the new matrix.  Some low jackpot winners will be coming along soon.

No, it only takes between $160 million and $170 million for the Mega Millions cash value to reach $100 million.  For example, check out this drawing this year:

There are other drawings more recently that demonstrate this, but that April drawing nailed it at exactly $100 million (good demonstration).

i just hope it gets over $100 million like maybe $120-$150 million i hate when there is a low jackpot winner.

Maybe I'll use the PP jackpot winnings from later tonight to buy several MM for Friday nights drawing. Then I would need two clean LP shirts to wear!
