More than 1,500 complaints have been filed in a Wood County sewer project being completed by a company owned by record Powerball winner Jack Whittaker, about one complaint for every customer the Union Williams Public Service District project would serve.
Diversified Enterprise and its subcontractor, Zion Inc., allegedly have sliced water, sewer, gas and power lines, cut down trees and knocked down fences, according to complaints filed with the PSD, located in Waverly.
The sewer project started in March 2004 and was supposed to be completed by last March, said Jerry Dotson, general manager of the Union Williams PSD. The number of complaints does not mean that each of the approximately 1,500 customers sent one, Dotson said, as some complained several times.
"We haven't been real happy with how some of the complaints have turned out," Dotson said.
Meanwhile, officials from the Affiliated Construction Trades Foundation are calling for an investigation into Whittaker's connections to Holley Brothers Construction Co. Inc. of Gallipolis, Ohio.
The construction company owes more than $1.3 million to the West Virginia Workers' Compensation Fund, said T.J. Obrakta, general counsel for the Workers' Compensation Commission.
Whittaker said the complaints are without merit and that the union has targeted him because his company is nonunion.

If I won the lottery. I would stay away from anything that could get me sued such as being soley responsible for a company. Retire darn it.
I don't agree totally, I think people change with sudden wealth. Jack might have been a better man without the money. You and I in here might not be able to handle such wealth. Of course we all think we can handle better than Jack. I don't go to strip clubs anyway, hate the places but maybe other lotto winners didn't either and became bored with such overwhelming wealth? Who knows until it happens? All I can say this, a sensible person before the lotto may change but I do agree with the statement that an idiot before the lotto will just be a rich idiot after the lotto because as history as shown money does not make one wise or smart. From all accounts, prior to his winning, he was a respected business man. Acronymm007 hit the nail on the head, there is something called Sudden Wealth Syndrone. Any of us could be hit with it once we won. Part of the key to success would be to stay out of the press, t.v. and spotlight. Low profile and you'll win half the battle.

he has made some very unwise decisions that have made a lot of people think he didn't deserve to win.do a search shalini.the man has had money stolen from him because he left hundreds of thousands of dollars locked in his vehicle.he has been arrested for alcohol issues.he was almost poisoned by someone at a racetrack looking to gain his wealth.i think he might've had a sexual harrasment charge against him from a strip club incident.he has had a granddaughter die of drugs since he won.too many things to name here.........
I've said it before: Jack was right in choosing lump sum. Let's hope the OR winner does the same.

In America, we only admire winners. Doesn't matter how they became winners, or who they hurt to become winners, just so they are winners. They can make it off booze, they can make it off of lying, anything is open - except drugs. Then when they fail, we strike like a Cobra.
