The Powerball multi-state lottery jackpot continued its upward climb Sunday, as no ticket in Saturday night's drawing matched all five numbers plus the Powerball.
Even though the grand prize was not awarded Saturday, 416,914 players across the nation won a total of more than $4.5 million in prizes in America's Game.
Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Saturday's drawing the jackpot will grow to an estimated $80 million.
The cash option for the Wednesday, September 14th drawing will be an estimated $40.5 million.
The numbers drawn were 8, 10, 11, 48, 50 and the Powerball was 16. The Power Play multiplier was 4.
Four players correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $200,000. Their winning tickets were purchased in Indiana, Missouri, Tennessee, and Vermont. One very lucky player in Connecticut not only won at this prize level but also purchased the Power Play option for a total win of $800,000.
Twenty-four players matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000.
More than 55,000 winning Powerball players multiplied their prizes by 4 Saturday. They were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you multiply your Powerball winnings 2-5 times, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier.
Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winners at other prize levels.
Players purchased more than $17.9 million worth of tickets between Thursday and Saturday night.
The lotteries sold approximately 2 billion in Powerball tickets in FY05. That translates into more than $600 million for worthwhile state projects.

I am wondering if this jackpot climb is going to continue at a 10 million rise each rollover for awhile or will it finally get some momentum and get bigger rollovers once mega millions is hit this week.
People in the MegaMillions States aren't driving to the PowerBall States to play because of their own jackpot being bigger and still may not even if their MM jackpot goes to $15M because of gas prices and they know it will be $100 again in 3-4 weeks. $100 jackpots are going to be more common with the new matrixs of both games.
Well if you have to come in second, $800,000 is a nice prize to have. lol. =)
Those lower tier prizes are definitely adding some luster to the game.
