Powerball

Even though Wednesday evening's Powerball draw did not generate a jackpot winner, 301,505 players across the nation won a total of more than $3.5 million in prizes.

Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Wednesday's drawing the jackpot grew to an estimated $32 million.

The cash option for the Saturday, August 27th drawing is an estimated $18.2 million.

The numbers drawn Wednesday night were 9, 11, 26, 35, 51 and the Powerball was 32. The Power Play multiplier was 5.

Six lucky players correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $100,000. The tickets were sold in Idaho, Indiana, Missouri, and Pennsylvania (3). One additional winner of that prize category in Arizona also purchased the Power Play option and multiplied their prize by 5 for a total win of $500,000.

Sixteen players matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $5,000. Four additional players who won at this prize level also purchased the Power Play for a total win of $25,000!

More than 44,000 winning Powerball players multiplied their prizes by 5 Wednesday. They were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you multiply your winnings from 2-5 times, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier.

Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winners at other prize levels.

Players purchased more than $13 million in tickets between Sunday and Wednesday night. The lotteries sold approximately $2 billion in Powerball tickets in FY05. That translates into more than $600 million for worthwhile state projects.

I hope that PB will go to 363+ million one of these days. I'm happy to see the $25 million dollar restriction rule down the road with the match 5 bonus prize coming soon.

CASH Only

Only one more drawing with 53 wb. I'm predicting 45m if no winner, given the new back-loaded annuity.

Wont be very long now 'till we see our first 54 or 55 drawn. I'd suspect that this will probably be the run that takes us over into the new matrix. It'll be fascinating to see just what two additional white balls will do to the upcoming jackpots.

As the door opens into the New Powerball ...all we can do is confidently cross the threshhold with a ticket in hand.

Make sure to PowerPlay!  That's one of the best consolation deals going.

I am hoping for bigger jackpots after powerball changes into the new powerball.  Another christmas record we be nice and a higher jackpot average too.  So long to the old powerball and in with the new and hopefully larger jackpots powerball.

Someone mentioned on one of the other threads that they've changed the lump sum calculation as a result of the extended annuity..... if the poster was correct the actual pre-tax lump sum prize will decrease as compared to the annuity prize, which might actually render the entire process of changing the matrix a meaningless thrust.

A lower lump sum jackpot with higher claims on the billboards for the pre-interest-accumulation dollars from ticket sales probably wasn't what players who favored the extra balls had in mind.

It's going to be fairly interesting to watch this all play out.  They'll sell more tickets.  They'll increase the jackpot sizes more quickly, not because they sell more tickets, but  because they've extended the time the (identical to lump-sum) money will draw interest under their careful management.

A person might be found in a corner scratching his head about this ..... wondering where all the extra money from ticket sales will be going if they're lowering the lump sum payout and increasing jackpot (advertised amounts) by extending the length of time the money draws interest.

There's nothing the human race can't do if enough people get advertising degrees, marketing degrees, accounting degrees, law degrees and MBAs.  Houdini had nothing on these people.
