$93 million Powerball lottery jackpot brings out wannabe winners

Powerball

The $93 million Powerball jackpot won with a ticket sold somewhere in the Albuquerque, New Mexico, metro area has yet to be officially claimed, but lottery officials say dozens of people have called the office, claiming to have won.

"We have people who say they are the winner by they don't know what the numbers are," said New Mexico Lottery Authority spokesperson Tom Sheehan. "They don't if they played those numbers."

Other people have said they bought the ticket but misplaced it.

Lottery rules state that winners must present the actual ticket to claim the prize. Officials say that, until the ticket is signed, whoever holds it can claim the prize.

Lottery officials aren't releasing some details about the ticket, like exactly where and when it was purchased, to cut down on the number of false claims.

The winner must claim the jackpot within 90 days after the drawing, which was on Aug. 11.

CASH Only

I thought only Iowa had a 90-day claim period.

Quick, tell me the winning numbers, and the telephone number to call - oh and the day of the drawing. Which lottery was it? By the way, how much did I win? But don't write any of this down,, I can't read.

Hi, sometimes I just don't understand what thing is going on ...

They did know the employees at Lottery Office are not kids muh !

That why I always think the winner should get the LH as soon as posible he/she can ....more than waiting for something "unsolved mystery" could happen ..ec.. ec..Surrender

I can't understand why so many people who know they did win are bothered that someone who did win is not stepping forward right away.  Could it be that they think the winner may be putting together a team with a scheme to solve their personal problems and avoid the con and rip-off artists after they go public?

No, Iowa has a one-year claim period.  N.M. is the only one with 90 days.

You can check out the claim periods for all Powerball states on the USA Mega Ways to Win page.

I'd like to see the winner come forward or call in for the simple reason that I could quit searching through the piles of tickets and my faulty memory to make sure it ain't me.

I understand your sentiment, but these stories can be important to jog someone's memory to search their past tickets.

It has happened too many times to count where someone has seen a story about the search for a jackpot winner, and it reminds them that they forgot to check their tickets.

If Lottery Post can help get a jackpot winner their rightful prize, I will be a happy man.

It's the first place I look every morning, even if there was no draw. The news posts are they only ones on the net that give that sort of information.

I agree with you both, I just think its funny. You have an awesome site, Todd, and information is king, as they say.

I am not sure but I think its the first winning powerball ticket where they didn't tell you the store where the ticket was purchased during there first or second anouncement of a winning ticket being drawn....

Likely it will all come out now....

New Mexicans will be flocking to buy tickets from that store.  Especially if it turns out it's the same convenience store where the Sandia Lab group (Kirkland) bought the previous winning ticket a few years ago.

I'm guessing the store, whereever it is, will be doing a land office business in ticket sales for a while.
