South Carolina Lottery officials say it will be several months before the financial impact is clear from an error made in a Palmetto Cash Five drawing last month.

On June 24th, one of the numbers in the live random drawing was reported as 37, although the number drawn actually was 27. The incorrect number was sent to media outlets across the state and posted on the South Carolina Education Lottery Web site.

Once the error was discovered, lottery officials decided to pay out on winning tickets with either number.

Officials say this was the first time the state lottery has made such an error. The lottery is conducting an internal review of the incident and the State Law Enforcement Division is investigating.

Why there was an error? Otherwise, lottery did pay out winning tickets with either number was the right thing.

I just tried going to the SC Lottery site and it asks you for a user name and password or it won't let you in.  Anyone know why they have it like that?

PS- I just found something that is somewhat horrifyingly truthful on the SCEL website.... If you look under the "Add-A-Play" feature of the site, scroll to the very bottom... you will see this:

OVERALL ODDS: 1:4.54
Average odds of not winning are 1 in 1.2825    <------------------Thud

Why would they even think about putting something like this on there?!?!?!?

Ha!  Pretty dumb.  Looks like the marketing guy went on vacation, and the accountants are running the web site!
