The only jackpot-winning ticket sold for Saturday night's $59.5 million multistate Powerball drawing was sold in Connecticut, a spokeswoman for the state lottery said.

The winner had not come forward and officials were not immediately sure where the ticket was sold, Diane Patterson said.

The jackpot is the largest in the 32-year history of the Connecticut State Lottery, Patterson said, and came eight years to the day since the last time a Connecticut resident won the Powerball jackpot.

A New Britain resident shared an $8 million jackpot on June 25, 1997, she said.

The winner can take a lump sum payment, or take the winnings over 30 years, Patterson said.

She recommended that the winner put the winning ticket in a safe place, such as a safety deposit box, and contact a lawyer, before contacting the lottery.

"We're very excited here at the lottery," she said. "Someone is really going to have some major changes in their life."

What happened to the 62 million dollar jackpot? Shouldn't the lottery know where the jackpot ticket is sold by now? I know it's only 2.5 million but you'd think they would be a little closer than that. Something is fishy with their Jackpot predictions, when they had 86 second prize winners 14 had power Play, the Jackpot still went up it's normal amount even with 14.2 million in second prize winners paid out. Just seems a little odd to me that even if they lose money the jackpot stills rolls the same.

Sigh, wasn't me either.

That last Ct. powerball winner 8 yrs. ago was a college kid who bought his ticket at this liquor store less than a mile from where I live. I usually buy my tickets there too. So far they haven't announced where the ticket was sold but I keep hoping this store will have a second lightning strike, if you know what I mean.
