Insider Buzz

Nevada Democrats are trying to breathe life into their state lottery proposal, an idea Senate Republicans say is dead for the 2005 session.

Although the resolution was voted down by the Senate Judiciary Committee, Assembly Speaker Richard Perkins, says he's negotiating with Senate Republicans leaders with the hopes of reviving it.

The resolution would let the state create a lottery to pay for school supplies and class-size reduction. Democrats say it could bring in as much as 50 million dollars annually for schools.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Mark Amodei says he doesn't intend to call for another vote in committee.

Democrats maintain that the bill is a top priority. It is expected to be involved in lawmakers' last-minute haggling over legislation before the session shuts down on June sixth.
