Another state lottery bill is in the North Carolina General Assembly. The bill is the third lottery proposal made this year and would not require a vote of the people.

The idea of a state lottery has already surfaced during this legislative session. One bill filed in the House would create a local-option lottery, where counties could vote individually to support or reject it.

Another bill would set up a lottery referendum to allow voters across the state to share their views.

The new bill calls on the General Assembly to enact a lottery on its own. House leaders assigned the first two bills to their rules committee and will assign the new plan to a committee Monday night.
