A suspect accused of carjacking a man outside a southeast Houston convenience store was arrested and placed behind bars Monday morning, but his accomplice remains on the run, police told an area news station.

Investigators said the two suspects approached the man, who was playing lottery scratch-off tickets in his pickup truck, at about 2 a.m., pulled him out of his truck, beat him up and stole his vehicle.

Police quickly caught up with the suspects after a short chase on Calhoun near Braes Bayou Drive.

When the suspects were pulled over, police said the men ran. However, officers caught one of the suspects.

The other suspect remains on the run.

Police said the victim was released after receiving treatments for his injuries at a hospital.
