Powerball

A Powerball ticket that could pay $171.4 million over 29 years was sold in Pennsylvania, lottery officials said.

The Pennsylvania Lottery did not say early Thursday where in Pennsylvania the ticket had been sold.

The winner has 60 days from the date of claiming the prize to decide whether to take the $171.4 million annuity paid over 29 years or a lump sum of $93,428,155.06, Pennsylvania Lottery officials said.

Tickets that match the first five numbers, but miss the Powerball, win $100,000 each, and there were nine of those. They were sold in Arizona, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

The $100,000 winner in Tennessee also bought the Power Play option, boosting their prize to $200,000.

Powerball tickets are sold in 27 states, the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands.

Can someone please tell me the last time there was a single jackpot winning ticket in the south besides the soldier in Fitzgerald, Ga for either multi-state game?

If you noticed all the large jackpots for the powerball the winners have come from the northeast states. Since the powerball started in Tn there have been alot of $100,000 winners also using the power play option.

Yes i have noticed that ..... and I have alot of friends and family in Tn that have also noticed it and they are PO'ed about it too.  We have a bet going that the first jackpot won in Tn will be less that 100mill. I have yet to see a single winning jackpot ticket over 160mill in the south from the multi-state lotteries.

the last one that I remember was the young lady in Ga that won her share of the record Big Game jackpot. Thats what???? 3-4 compared to how many from up north?!?!?!

Yes, there have been quite a few Southern located Jackpot wins for Powerball during the past 24 months.

Feb 22, 2003 split win $42 million dollar Pbl jkpt won in Missouri and the other half of prize won in Louisiana.

March 26, 2003 Powerball ticket won $62 million jackpot in West Virginia.

May 7, 2003 Powerball ticket won $87 million jackpot in South Carolina.

July 9, 2003 half of $261.3 million Powerball jackpot won in Missouri.

December 31, 2003 half of $210 million Powerball jkpt won in South Carolina.

June 26, 2004 $67 million Powerball jackpot won in South Carolina.

...so looking back only two years we can see a number Southern locations awarded jackpots in Powerball. And looking back just a little further in time, West Virginia had two additional Powerball jackpot wins including the record $314.9 million single hit on Dec 25th, 2002.

  good luck to all!

LOL.......I don't think that you carefully read my question. I said "the last time someone from the south won a single large jackpot in the multi-state games besides the soldier in Fitzgerald, Ga".

well the soldier in Ga won $150mill ......so that would automatically set the standard for my question at 150 and above. Then I also said a single winning ticket from the "south", so that "half" that was awarded to the South Carolina ticket would be eliminated. The West Virginia ticket was under $100mill. Missouri is considered the midwest, so that state would be eliminiated. . . . . and i think that pretty much covers your list that you had put together. Its cute though. . . but not the answers I'm lookin for.

 good luck to you!

Living in a Powerball state, I don't usually keep close track of the Megamillions jackpots awarded, but I do remember a fairly recent single ticket win that would address at least two of the criteria of your question. It was from the south, I consider Stephens City, Virginia to be south, and it was certainly well over $160 million.  As to whether it is still the "most recent" multi-state jackpot to fit the other parameters of your question, I can't say...

but it does qualify for being over $160M; from the South Eastern portion of the country; and recent ...here's the story:
